DOLPHIN TALE Swims It’s Way To The Top Of The Box Office

“The Lion King 3D” has been dethroned by Winter the dolphin after reigning king for two weeks.

Warner Bros. “Dolphin Tale” tells the story of an injured bottle nose dolphin, named Winter, who loses her tail after being entangled in a crab trap. With her diagnoses looking dire, a young boy by the name of Sawyer Nelson comes to Winter’s rescue by motivating the community around him to help create a prosthetic tail for Winter and rehabilitate her back to health. The “Dolphin Tale” brought in $14.2 million in its second week at the box office pushing it to number one.

Brad Pitt’s “Moneyball”, the true story of Oakland A’s general manager Billy Bean, came in second with $12.5 million thus pushing “The Lion King” to third place with $11.1 million.

How much longer will “The Lion King 3D” be in theaters?

The movie, originally scheduled for a two week run, was extended after the Disney classic launched its way to #1 at the box office back to back. Due to it’s October 4th release on Blu-ray this will most likely be the last weekend “The Lion King 3D” will be in theaters.
