Eddie Murphy Returns In New ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ Movie

After almost 20 years, Eddie Murphy is returning for the fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.  Murphy plays the role of a street-smart Detroit cop who heads to Beverly Hills, California to investigate crimes, even though they are out of his jurisdiction.

The original Beverly Hill Cops came out in 1984 and until now there had been three BHC movies.  The decision to make a fourth movie was made after the Beverly Hills Cop television series failed.  The TV reboot was going to be focused primarily around Foley’s (Murphy) son. Paramount noticed how well the pilot episode did with audiences and decided to pick it up as a fourth movie installment instead.

The producer of the television show, Ryan Shawn, first released the news about a new BHC movie via Twitter on July 19th. Ryan tweeted, “Good news for fans of franchise is that the pilot tested so well, it has caused Paramount to put another #BHC movie into development.”

The script for the movie is being written by Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol‘s Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.  The movie’s storyline and released date have yet to be announced.
