Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington to Star in ‘Magnificent Seven’

It has been over a decade since Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington starred in Antoine Fuqua’s Training Day, the film about a rookie and veteran cop with conflicting moral approaches to the law that earned both actors Academy Award nominations (and a win for Washington), but according to Variety the two will reunite for The Magnificent Seven with Fuqua even returning as director.

Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Parks and Recreation) and Haley Bennett (The Equalizer) are also set to star.

Magnificent Seven will be a remake of the 1960 version that starred Steve McQueen, itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s classic Seven Samurai. The McQueen version focused on a group of gunslingers in the west protecting a Mexican village from a group of outlaws.

Denzel Washington’s latest project was the Liam Neeson styled actioner The Equalizer while Ethan Hawke is fresh off an Academy Award nominated supporting actor role in Richard Linklater’s Boyhood.

Magnificent Seven is currently in pre-production with no set release date.
