‘Fast 6’ Leads the Competition at the Box Office

Fast and Furious 6 remains on top at the box office in its second week, earning $34.5 million over the weekend.  The magic-heist film Now You See Me, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Morgan Freeman, performed better than expected, debuting at #2 with $28 million.  Meanwhile, Will and Jaden Smith’s apocalypse film After Earth earned only $27 million, far below studio estimates of $35-40 million.

Star Trek Into Darkness and Iron Man 3 are still going strong, the latter having reached $385 million in receipts. Bollywood cinema reached the Top 10 charts with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, earning $1.6 million for 9th place.  Matthew McConaughey’s Mud still clings onto the number 10 spot after 6 weeks.

Here are top ten earners from this weekend’s box office:

3.  After Earth – $27 million gross

4.  Star Trek Into Darkness – $16.4 million (weekend), $181 million gross

5.  Epic – $16.4 million (weekend), $65.2 million gross

6.  The Hangover Part III – $15.9 million (weekend), $88.1 million gross

7.  Iron Man 3 – $8.01 million (weekend), $385 million gross

8.  The Great Gatsby – $6.26 million (weekend), $128 million gross

9.  Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – $1.6 million gross

10.  Mud – $1.2 million (weekend), $16.9 million gross
