First Look: Boston Marathon Bombing Film ‘Patriots Day’ Starring Mark Wahlberg

On April 15, 2013, the city of Boston was on high alert in the aftermath of a bomb explosion during its annual marathon. A day of terror and courageousness, the event will get the cinematic treatment in Patriots Day (previously titled “Mile 22”) starring Mark Wahlberg. Peter Berg, whose recent film Deepwater Horizon also starring Wahlberg, Kate Hudson, and Kurt Russell, recounted the 2010 BP Oil explosion in the Gulf of Mexico, looks to tell the story of the Boston marathon bombing, interweaving stories to present an unflinching chronicle of that fateful day and the manhunt to capture the bombers.

CBS Films has debuted the first trailer.

In the aftermath of an unspeakable attack, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again.

Joining Wahlberg the ensemble includes Kevin Bacon (as Special Agent Richard Deslauriers), John Goodman (as Police Commissioner Ed Davis), J.K. Simmons (as Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese), and Michelle Monaghan (as nurse Carol Saunders).

Patriots Day is set to open in Boston on December 21, 2016, as well as New York and Los Angeles for Oscar consideration. The film opens nationwide on January 13, 2017.
