‘Iron Man 3,’ Biggest Debut for Solo Superhero Movie

After 2012’s “The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3” had the second biggest box office debut in cinema history, earning $175.3 million over the weekend in North America.  In total the film has already earned $680.1 million worldwide.

Robert Downey Jr. has now proven himself to be one of the most famous actors in the world, and solidifying himself as a crucial asset to the “Avengers” franchise.  It is going to be interesting how high “Iron Man 3” will go on the list of biggest box of releases of all time.

Below is the top ten list of last week’s box office:

1. “Iron Man 3” – $175.3 million

2. “Pain & Gain” – $7.6 million, $33.9 million total gross

3. “42” – $6.21 million, $78.3 million total gross

4. “Oblivion” – $5.8 million, $76 million total gross

5. “The Croods” – $4.22 million, $169 million total gross

6. “The Big Wedding” – $3.88 million, $14.2 million total gross

7. “Mud” – $2.2 million, $5.2 million total gross

8. “Oz the Great and Powerful” – $1.82 million, $229 million total gross (in 9 weeks)

9. “Scary MoVie” – $1.44 million, $29.6 million total gross

10. “The Place Beyond the Pines” – $1.3 million, $18.7 million total gross
