A fifth installment of the Bourne film franchise is currently in the works, with a focus on Jeremy Renner’s character Aaron Cross.
Reportedly, Universal has hired screenwriter Anthony Peckham and Guy Ritchie to draft a script with a focus on the character of Aaron Cross after Matt Damon chose not to return as Jason Bourne.
Damon chose not to return to the franchise after Paul Greengrass, director of the second and third Bourne films, decided not to return. However, Damon has admitted that he would consider returning as Jason Bourne if Greengrass was to direct.
Last year The Bourne Legacy took in $275 million at theaters worldwide, but numbers failed to match the success of the previous film, The Bourne Ultimatum, which brought in over $440 million.
The fifth installment of the Bourne franchise will hit theaters on August 14, 2015.
