Jonathan Majors is in negotiations to play opposite of Michael B. Jordan in the latter’s upcoming directorial debut Creed III, according to a report from Deadline. Majors’ role is described as a ring adversary to Jordan’s character Adonis Creed.
The report comes amidst what’s been a meteoric rise for Majors since his breakout role in The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019). His most recent film was Spike Lee’s Netflix original Da 5 Bloods (2020), and he is coming off of the first season of favorited HBO show Lovecraft Country (2020) in which he has a leading role.
Creed would be one of the many projects the actor has in his schedule after he was cast to play Kang the Conqueror in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Also on his docket is the Netflix western The Harder They Fall and Black Label Media’s Devotion.
There has been no official announcement from MGM, the studio behind the third installment of the spinoff franchise, on the casting of Majors. Beyond the return of Jordan, Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad, it is unclear who else will be making an appearance in the film.
Creed began as a spinoff from the Rocky franchise, starring and eventually directed by Sylvester Stallone as the titular character. Stallone starred in the first two installments of Creed but will not return for the upcoming sequel. Jordan follows in his footsteps as he takes the director’s helm while playing the lead character.
Creed III is currently set to release in theaters on November 23, 2022.
