‘La La Land’ Makes History At 74th Annual Golden Globes

If you were following the BackstageOL Twitter feed during the Golden Globes telecast, then you know that Lionsgate’s La La Land was an unstoppable freight train picking up award after award. Nominated in seven categories, it was a clean sweep for Damien Chazelle’s musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Its seven wins makes it the most decorated film in the history of the Golden Globes, an award that has been presented every year for the last seventy-four years.

La La Land took home statues for Picture (Musical/Comedy), actors Gosling and Stone (Musical/Comedy), Best Original Song (“City of Stars”), and Justin Hurwitz won for his jazzy soundtrack. Director Damien Chazelle was a double winner for both his screenplay and his direction of a beautiful Hollywood-set musical that would make the likes of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dance with glee.

Other winners of note at the 74th annual award show include Casey Affleck for his lead dramatic performance in Manchester by the Sea, Isabelle Huppert for Elle, Viola Davis for Fences (delivering perhaps the best acceptance speech of the night) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson for his supporting turn in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals.
