Downton Abbey‘s Lily James, who plays Lady Rose MacClare on the popular drama, will be playing the role of Cinderella in Disney’s upcoming live-action version of the classic fairytale directed by Kenneth Branagh.
At first Emma Watson was in the talks to possibly play the role of Cinderella, but it has now been confirmed that Lily James will fill those glass slippers. As for the rest of the fairytale cast, we only know that the role of her mean stepmother will be played by Cate Blanchett. There is no word yet on who will play Prince Charming or the two cruel step sisters.
Screenplay drafts for Cinderella were written by Twilight: New Moon’s Chris Weitz and The Devil Wears Prada’s Aline Brosh McKenna.
Production is due to start later this fall with an expected 2014 release date.
