Lorde to Curate Soundtrack For ‘Mockingjay Part1’

Lionsagate announced on Twitter that multi-platinum Gammy Award-winning singer Lorde will be writing an original song for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 as well as hand picking the artists for the film’s soundtrack.

During a press release the singer expressed that, “Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance. The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.”

This isn’t the first time Lorde has been a part of the franchise. The singer’s cover of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears was featured on the Catching Fire soundtrack.

Francis Lawrence, the films director, spoke of the singers’ talent in a statement by saying he was “immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we, as both fans and filmmakers, were trying to accomplish with the film.”

Continuing on, “Her immense talent and keen understanding of Mockingjay’s characters and theme no only enabled her to create a song of her own that complately captured the films’ essence, but her insight and passion for our project makes her the perfect creative force to assemble the other song on our sound track. I can’t wait to share what she’s done with the fans—it is truly remarkable. “

The Hunger Games: Mackingjay Part 1, staring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworlolth and Wood Harrelson, will be released in theaters on November 21, 2014.
