Oscars Move to March Next Year

The 86th Academy Awards are moving to March in 2014 to avoid competing against the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.  It is no new occurrence for the Oscars to be held in March, rather than February.  Until the 76th Academy Awards in 2004, every Oscars award show since 1942 was held in either March or April .

The Screen Actors Guild, known for their SAG Awards, have planned to move their 2014 award show from the end of January to January 18th as well.  As for the Hollywood Foreign Press, no new date has been announced as to whether the Golden Globes will remain with its traditional mid-January date or not.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did announce that the 87th Academy Awards will return to February in 2015.  Both the 86th and 87th Academy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on March 2 and February 22, respectively.
