‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Begins Filming

Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has officially begun filming in Queensland, Australia.

The fifth installment in the franchise will star Johnny Depp reprising his role of Captain Jack Sparrow, with Javier Bardem joining the crew as the villainous Captain Salazar.

Orlando Bloom is set to reprise his role as Will Turner after skipping the fourth installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, in 2011. According to Variety, “Turner’s relationship with his son (played by newcomer Brenton Thwaites) is rumored to loom large in the plot of Dead Men Tell No Tales.”

Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner), Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent) and Golshifteh Farahani (Exodus: Gods and Kings) are also going to star in the pirate film, with veterans Geoffrey Rush returning as Barbossa, Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs and Stephen Graham as Scrum.

Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning (Marco Polo) are set to direct Dead Men Tell No Tales, with a script penned by Jeff Nathanson (Catch me If You Can, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crysal Skull).

Below is the film’s official plot synopsis:

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is scheduled to hit theaters July 7th, 2017.
