‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Gets A Release Date

It’s Morphin Time! Lionsgate has just announced that the Power Rangers reboot is set to hit theaters July 22, 2016.

With the recent box-office successes of Divergent and The Hunger Games, and not to mention fellow ‘90s alum Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Paramount Pictures), the studio hopes to launch another franchise for the summer blockbuster season by teaming up with Saban, creators of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series.

The story will focus on a group of high school teenagers who team up to save planet Earth after being granted extraterrestrial powers.

Below is the film’s official movie synopsis:

From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci (“Transformers”, “Star Trek”, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”) and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (“X-Men: First Class”, “Thor”) comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.

The reboot finds itself debuting alongside Warner Bros.’ King Arthur, directed by Guy Ritchie, which also bows on July 22nd, making for a competitive weekend for both films.
