Ryan Gosling and Shailene Woodley Turned Down ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Roles

Ever since the casting for the two main roles of the 50 Shades of Grey film was announced over the weekend, there has been an uproar all over the Internet, with many fans expressing their disapproval of the casting.

Today it was revealed that Ryan Gosling was offered the part of the 27-year-old billionaire, Christian Grey. However, the actor turned down the role, saying he simply “was not interested.”  The role was also reportedly offered to Garrett Hedlund, but he shot down the part as well, stating he “couldn’t connect with the character.”

Rumors swirled this summer over who would play Anastasia Steele.  Could it be Emma Watson or Elizabeth Olsen?  Today it was disclosed that Shailene Woodley was in the running for the part. Reportedly, she was fine with filming the required scenes of nudity, but turned it down because she was already committed to her upcoming lead role in Divergent.

In the end, lesser-known actors Charlie Hunnam of “Sons of Anarchy” fame and “Ben and Kate” star Dakota Johnson were cast.

Personally, I don’t think Gosling would have been right for the role, considering he usually acts in more dramatic and less mainstream films. For Woodley, I only see her as the young pregnant girl on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” Plus, she has enough book-to-film adaptations on her plate with the hotly-anticipated Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars.

What do you think? Would Ryan Gosling and Shailene Woodley have been perfect for the role?
