‘Scarface’ Is Getting Remade Whether We Like It Or Not

Brian De Palma’s legendary 1983 film Scarface, starring Al Pacino, is getting remade whether we like it or not. This week Universal Pictures hired screenwriter Paul Attanasio (House/Donnie Brasco) to rewrite the original Scarface draft by David Ayer. The film is expected to be a spin-off of the original 1932 and 1983 films.

The backdrop of the upcoming remake will feature the same elements as the two previous films: an outsider, immigrant fights his way into the criminal establishment to become a violent and ruthless underworld kingpin. In the original 1932 Scarface an Italian immigrant works his way into Chicago’s criminal underworld while in the 1983 film Al Pacino plays a Cuban national who works his way in Miami’s criminal underworld to become the “King of Cocaine.”

The studio has yet to release any clues at what nationality the main character will be based on or which city the remake will be filmed in. If you were a producer on the film what would your choices be?
