Scooby-Doo Returning to the Big Screen

Scooby-Doo will be heading back to the big screen.

Warner Bros. revealed that an animated feature centered on Scooby-Doo will be coming to theaters in 2018. Allison Abbate will produce alongside Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, who worked on American Hustle, Scooby-Doo, and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed together. Tony Cervone, who has much experience with animated cartoons, will serve as director. Cervone’s credits include Cartoon Network’s The Looney Tunes Show, Space Jam,  and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated. Matt Lieberman is penning the screenplay.

The previous theatrical releases for the classic cartoon character were 2002’s live action film Scooby-Doo and its sequel, 2004’s Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. The two films earned over $457.1 million worldwide.

“Like countless fans, I have always loved the Hanna-Barbera cast of characters,” Warner Bros.’ president of creative development and worldwide production, Greg Silverman, stated. “As one of their most famous brand ambassadors, Scooby-Doo will take the lead in reintroducing this pantheon of enduringly popular animated stars on a grand scale with an exciting new movie.”

The new film, which will be made by Warner Animation Group, is currently set to be released September 21, 2018.
