Sony Pictures Drops Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs Biopic

Yet another player is dropping out of Aaron Sorkin’s adaption of Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs.

Sony Pictures, who acquired the rights to the film right after Jobs’ death in 2011, has put the biopic into turnaround.

Leonardo DiCaprio was previously in the running to play the late technological innovator; however, the actor passed on the project to take a break from acting.

Shortly after Christian Bale was slated to play the lead role, the actor dropped out deciding that he wasn’t right for the part. Producers rushed to find a replacement and announced that Sony Pictures has chosen Michael Fassbender to portray Jobs.

Seth Rogen is still in talks to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, with Oscar-winner Danny Boyle in the director’s chair.

The film is expected to follow Jobs during three stressful, high-profile product launches including the first Macintosh in 1984 and Apple’s 2001 debut of the iPod.

This isn’t the first biopic to be made based off the Apple mogul’s career. Last year’s Jobs starred Ashton Kutcher playing the lead role with Josh Gad as Wozniak. At the global box office, the film went on to earn a modest $36 million.

According to Variety, Sony had no comment on their decision. However, there is still hope for the Steve Jobs biopic, as Deadline is reporting that Universal Pictures is interested and may come to a final decision by tomorrow at the latest.
