The First Official Look at THE BATMAN

I Am Vengeance…I Am

The last panel of DC Fandome was the main attraction. The main event. The movie showing at which the entire theater was sold out. This was the first time that we would receive an update regarding Matt Reeve’s The Batman in a post COVID-19 world, and it did not disappoint.

It’s hard to adapt a Batman story into one that the general audience will appreciate and enjoy. For every The Dark Knight there is a Batman and Robin. For every Batman Forever there is a Batman Begins. The next director chosen in the chair of a Batman was Matt Reeves, most known for Cloverfield, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes.

Matt Reeves spent the majority of his speaking time during the panel reassuring Batman fans and explaining the inner working of his brain on the new Batman project. This Batman, portrayed by Robert Pattinson, is a different style of super hero story. He’s new to being Batman with only 15 months of experience. He makes mistakes often and the people of Gotham are afraid of him. The so called “villains” within this world haven’t been created yet. This story is a personal one, a story of Bruce Wayne’s struggle with the dichotomy of being Batman.

Matt also hinted at his new TV project Gotham PD and discussed how the worlds would connect and flow between the show and the movie. Gotham PD will explore Gotham and the police corruption within it, taking place and leading into the theatrical “The Batman”.
