Universal Saves ‘Dumb and Dumber’ Sequel

After Warner Bros. decided to ditch production on a sequel to 1994’s Dumb and Dumber, Universal Pictures has stepped in to save the day!

Writing and directing pair Bobby and Peter Farrelly, the same guys who wrote and directed the first film, broke the news on Twitter Tuesday writing, “IT”S OFFICIAL: Dumb and Dumber To is going into production with @RedGranitePics and @UniversalPics!!!”

The film reportedly costs an inexpensive $30 million to produce and will feature Jeff Daniel and Jim Carrey reprising their roles as Harry and Lloyd, respectively.  In the film Harry and Lloyd will be working to track down Harry’s illegitimate daughter so he can receive a kidney transplant.

It should not be hard for Universal Pictures to recoup the $30 million spent on the film.  In 1994 Dumb and Dumber earned an astonishing $247 million on an investment of just $17 million.  Makes you wonder why Warner Bros. dropped the film in the first place.

Filming is expected to begin as early as this Summer with a release sometime in 2014, just in time for the original film’s 20th anniversary.
