VIDEO: Trailer for James Franco’s ‘Child of God’

Actor James Franco’s latest directorial effort is an adaptation of the 1973 novel Child of God by Pulitzer Prize-winner Cormac McCarthy.

The film will star Scott Haze as Lester Ballard, a dispossessed and violent man living in a small Tennessee town in the 1960s. Filled with despair and deprived of parents and housing, Ballard falls deeper into crime and degradation. Franco – who co-wrote and produced the feature – stars alongside Haze, portraying Jerry. The two have worked together before when they both starred in last year’s William Faulkner adaptation, As I Lay Dying.

Along with Haze and Franco, the adaptation stars Tim Blake Nelson, Jim Parrack, Fallon Goodson, Jeremy Ambler, and was produced by Caroline Aragon, Vince Jolivette, and Miles Levy.

Franco’s other projects include a biopic of writer Charles Bukowski and another Faulkner adaptation The Sound and the Fury — with Haze and Nelson returning for both films.

Child of God premiered last year at the Vince International Film Festival, and will open in select theaters on August 1st.
