5 Seconds of Summer Debut at #1 on Billboard 200

Australian pop band 5 Seconds of Summer released its first full-length album last week and it has made a smashing debut. After selling 259,000 copies, the group came out on top of the Billboard 200.

The album is the third-largest debut of the year and the fourth-largest sales week. In addition, it is the biggest debut for an artist’s first full-length album and the biggest debut for a group since 2006 when Daughtry’s self-titled debut album sold 304,000 copies in its first week.

The album marks some incredible accomplishments for Australia as well. The band is the first Australian act to have its first full-length album debut at the top of the chart and is the last Australian act to hit No. 1 since AC/DC’s Black Ice in 2008.

5 Seconds of Summer also had some exciting news today with the announcement of its first North American headlining tour, which will kick off next summer. The group is currently on tour opening for One Direction.

Following 5 Seconds of Summer on the Billboard 200 this week was the Frozen soundtrack, which is spending its 31st consecutive week in the top five. “Weird Al” Yankovic’s Mandatory Fun nabbed the third spot, followed by Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour, and Kidz Bop 26 to round out the top five.
