Album Review: Arctic Monkeys “AM”

It’s been a while since I have actually purchased new music for myself. One of the drawbacks to having satellite radio in my car is that I get lazy when it comes to getting off my ass and buying the new music that I really like. I’m already paying for Sirius and they do a pretty good job of playing stuff I enjoy so why bother, right?

Well there’s been a break in the routine because I had to make it a point to get the new Arctic Monkeys album “AM.” Something about the first single “Do I Wanna Know” just hit home they way that a great song always does. It’s moody with lots of space for the giant hook to swim at the end of the line. The follow up “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” picks up the pace and rocks a bit more than the first single. The best part of “AM” is that it’s not just a couple of singles and bunch of other stuff, it’s a well conceived and highly listenable effort all the way to the last track. I think I got my money’s worth.

There’s some other stuff out there right now that I’m drawn to as well. I find Cults, Kitten, POLICA and The Orwells pretty enticing right now. More purchases to come.
