American Idol Scotty McCreery Debuts At #1

The latest Billboard top 200 chart is out and the Idol champ Scotty McCreery is at the top.

His new album “Clear As Day” is making history for several reasons. He is the first country act to debut at No. 1 with their first studio album. He is also the youngest at age 18 to debut at the top with their first release.

“Clear As Day” sold over 197,000 copies. It is also the first time since 2003’s Ruben Studdard’s “Soulful” album that an “Idol” winner has topped the charts with their first album.

There’s more.

“Clear as Day” also had the biggest debut sales week of any “Idol” winner’s first album since David Cook did it way back in 2008.

Both Ruben Dominguez and I have predicted that Scotty is going to be a mega star- these first week sales numbers prove it.

Next week, “Idol” runner up Lauren Alaina releases her first album, “Wildflower.”

In fact, my colleague and fellow BackstageOL writer Ruben Dominguez offers his perspective– click here to read his story.
