Clear Channel Announces iHeart Music Awards

Clear Channel announced news of the first-ever iHeartRadio Music Awards on Wednesday.  The three-hour ceremony will showcase the year’s biggest artists and songs as determined by iHeartRadio listeners and feature live performances, “never-before-done duets and collaborations,” and live award presentations.

“The iHeartRadio Music Awards will be the first awards show in history to reflect America’s favorite music, and which is truly powered by the people,” said John Sykes, President of Entertainment Enterprises for Clear Channel.

The iHeartRadio Awards will have 13 categories. In each category, 10 nominees have been drawn based on broadcast and online popularity and, beginning today, the public will be able to vote through Twitter and Facebook to narrow the nominations to five finalists in each field. The winners will be chosen in a similar fashion, using custom #hashtags as the primary voting mechanism.  Finalists in each category will be announced on March 26.

The iHeart Music Awards will be held at the historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on May 1.  The awards show will be broadcast and streamed live across all participating Clear Channel radio stations and their websites, on iHeartRadio, and televised on NBC.
