Coldplay Score Fastest-Selling Album of 2014

Coldplay’s sixth studio album Ghost Stories, which hit stores worldwide on Monday, May 16, has grabbed the title of fastest selling album of the year. As of Sunday, May 25, the record had sold an impressive 168,000 copies since its release. The album is now pushing to score the largest sales week of 2014. Here’s the forecast: Industry sources have sales for Ghost Stories projected to bow with 370,000 to 390,000 copies sold by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, May 25.

Following its spectacular first-week sales, Ghost Stories will easily snag the No. 1 spot on this week’s Billboard 200 chart, earning the British rock group its fourth consecutive No. 1 album, following other chart-toppers like 2005’s X&Y, 2008’s Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends, and 2011’s Mylo Xyloto, which dominated the albums chart with a whopping 447,000 copies sold during its first-week. The Billboard 200’s new top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, May 28.

The brand-new Ghost Stories album, which features “Magic,” and the band’s latest single “A Sky Full of Stars,” is available for download on iTunes now. Ghost Stories stands as Coldplay’s first release since moving to Warner Music Group’s Atlantic Records.
