Do You Have What It Takes for the Harlem Shake?

AND the “Harlem Shake” has gone viral ladies and gentlemen!

In 2012 it was “Gangnam Style” that took YouTube by storm… but in 2013 there is a new video king in town.

To help you understand the history; back in the 80’s Harlem Shake was invented at a Harlem basketball game. From there, it went on to become a hip-hop dance move involving shimmies, tics, and pops.

But now, the Shake is known as the video meme with the dance song “Harlem Shake” by Baauer. Needless to say, the dance is still quite spastic.

The YouTube videos that have continuously popped up over the past few days are only about 30 seconds long, are easy to make, and have been filmed in the craziest of places; underwater, at concerts, army bases, and on College Campuses across the country.

According to Kevin Allocca, YouTube trends manager, “Harlem Shake” video uploads have skyrocketed in the last few days. He writes that as of Feb. 11th over 12,000 videos have posted in just February alone.   He added that there has been close to 44 million views of the 12,000 videos.
