Drake’s Surprise Album Projected to Sell 500,000 In Less Than a Week

Drake’s surprise project If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late may post the best single week iTunes sales since another surprise release: Beyoncé’s self titled album. Remarkably both albums were released with no promotion or major announcement. Beyonce’s album even had no previously released material while Drake’s featured two songs previously released through his Sooundcloud and on Lil Wayne’s Sorry 4 the Wait 2.

According to Billboard industry insiders are are projecting that If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late to top a gold certified 500,000 copies in sales with the possibility that the number could be even higher. The feat is not only impressive for a surprise album but also for an album released on a Thursday (February 12 near midnight) instead of a typical Tuesday for new releases. The album could achieve the highest single week iTunes sales (and easily debut at #1 on Billboard) with two less days of sales than a normal marketed release.

Drake’s If Your’re Reading This It’s Too Late is available on iTunes here.

The latest Billboard chart will be released this Thursday February 19, 2015.
