Centric TV will air a documentary chronicling the story of the late pioneer rapper Heavy D.

According to Centric, “Be Inspired: The Life of Heavy D” will feature interviews with the Jamaican-born rapper’s family and artists such as Will Smith,Mary J. Blige, Eddie F., Anthony Hamilton, Queen Latifah and Kim Fields.

Heavy D, whose given name was Dwight Myers, is considered one of the most influential rap artists of the late 1980s and early 1990s. He had a great impact on the music industry as the front man for his group, Heavy D and The Boyz and also as a solo artist. Meyers died last November at age 44 from a blood clot in his lung.

The hip hop star was a big part of the careers of other black artists as well.  He was a record label executive who hired Sean “Diddy” Combs as an intern, produced rappers such as Jay-Z and was a close mentor to Queen Latifah.

The documentary airs this Sunday, February 26 at 11P/10C
