Houston Singer Wins Grammy Award

HOUSTON – A singer with Houston ties was among the list of Grammy Award winners.

Gospel singer Le’Andria Johnson won the award for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance for her single “Jesus” as part of the 54th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, which took place Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Johnson, who is on the artist roster at Houston-based Music World, performed during the “Ladies of Gospel” segment along with label mate Trin-i-tee 5:7, Kim Burrell, and Kelly Price during a portion of the Grammy Awards ceremony that was not televised.

Since winning the “Sunday Best” Gospel music competition on BET in 2010, Johnson has released her debut album “The Awakening of Le’Andria Johnson,” which was ranked at #1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart for eight weeks and remained in the Top 5 for more than fifteen weeks.

Johnson’s second CD, “The Evolution of Le’Andria Johnson,” along with a deluxe edition, will be released Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day. The first single from the CD, “Its Gonna Be Alright,” has already reached #1 on the Most Added on the Billboard Gospel charts.

Music World Gospel is celebrating its 10th year as part of Music World Entertainment/ Music World Music. The company is the largest owned and operated African American Gospel label in the world.
