John Lennon Honored With Human Peace Sign

On Tuesday, thousands of people gathered in Central Park’s East Meadow to join Yoko Ono in trying to set a world record for the largest-ever human peace sign, in honor of her late husband, John Lennon.

Though the attempt didn’t quite succeed, the crowd still celebrated the upcoming birthday of the Beatle singer, who would have turned 75 years old this Friday.

A Guinness World Records representative said that although there were over 2,000 people present, in order for it to be an official record, there had to have been at least 5,000. The current human peace sign record was set in Ithaca, NY back in 2009, where over 5,814 people were in attendance.

More than three decades after her husband’s assassination, Lennon’s 82-year-old widow summed up the event using his famed lyrics, “Imagine all the people living life in peace.”

She concluded, “This is the best present to John.”
