Picuture: BBC

Sir Paul McCartney has announced that he will be closing the opening ceremonies at this year’s Summer Olympics in London on July 27.  The news comes just hours after McCartney performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration at Buckingham Palace..

The legendary Beatles singer confirmed the news in an interview with BBC Radio 5 yesterday (via Rolling Stone).

There is no word on who is performing, though it’s been confirmed that Blur will headline the closing ceremony in London’s Hyde Park and that, in total, the opening and closing ceremonies will feature about 15,000 people.

The lineup for the ceremony, overseen by “Slumdog Millionaire” director Danny Boyle and themed “Isles of Wonder,” is a closely guarded secret.
