Rapper Troy Ave Released On $500,000 Bail

After weeks being held without bond, Troy Ave was released from prison on Monday (July 11^th) after posting $500,000 bail, secured by his mother’s Brooklyn home.

The Brooklyn rapper – real name Roland Collins – was being held in custody after being indicted on one attempted murder and two weapons charges. Collins was attending a T.I. concert at New York’s Irving Plaza on May 25^th when a gunfight commence – leaving him with a gunshot wound to his right leg, his bodyguard and friend Ronald McPhatter dead and two others injured.

Despite a surveillance video showing Collins firing a gun, he and his legal team deny that he is responsible for McPhatter’s death. Collins even mentioned the incident on his June mixtape, rapping: “P—y n—a tried to assassinate me / I took the gun from him and turned the tables ‘round like a G.”

As part of his release, Collins will be prohibited from leaving New York City, banned from entering performance venues, and requires that he wear a GPS ankle bracelet and stick to an 11 p.m. curfew.

The circumstances surrounding McPhatter’s death remain under investigation.
