Scotty McCreery Is Number One- Ruben’s Take

When we first saw Scotty McCreery on American Idol last year he was just a cute kid with a grown up country voice. His aw-shucks attitude and sheepish grin immediately endeared him to fans of the show. The only knock on McCreery was that all of his performances kind of sounded the same due to that big baritone voice.

But was he just a one trick pony? I thought so and of course I was wrong. Very wrong. As he progressed through the competition we started to see signs of what this kid could turn into. First year Idol judge Stephen Tyler even remarked “Scotty man, I thought you were all hat and no cattle,” meaning that there was more to him than anyone first thought.

In the final few weeks of season ten of American Idol it was pretty clear that this all American teen could become a country superstar. And he has done just that because he is now the youngest male to ever debut at the top of the all-genre chart with his first album. With 196,739 units sold in the first week of it’s release Clear As Day may be the first in a long line of platinum records that Scotty is going to be hanging on his wall.

He has come a LONG way since we first met Scotty on “American Idol.” Take a look at where he started—
