Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” Soars Back To #1

Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” is shaking up the charts as it returns once more to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

The single debuted at No. 1 on September 6th and remained there for a solid two weeks until Meghan Trainors “All About That Bass” swooped in and bumped it down to the second spot. The “Bass” hit reined at No. 1 for the following eight weeks, but has now been pushed back down to reside at No. 2 beneath Swift’s 1989 track.

The pop star’s newly released album successfully sold 1.287 million copies within a week of its release. Her second single “Blank Space” entered the Hot 100 at No. 18 and will most likely climb its way to the top. Other 1989 tracks on the Hot 100 include “Style” (60), “Wildest Dreams” (76), and “Bad Blood” (80).

“Shake It Off” even made it onto last nights Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, where the comedian-host referenced President Obama’s speech regarding the 2014-midterm elections on Tuesday. Obama’s message was simple, in that he urged supporters to go out and “vote, vote, vote.”

Fallon decided to make the phrase a bit catchier with the help of Swift’s popular (and now No. 1) tune. “In a speech on Sunday, President Obama said, ‘We’ve got to vote, vote, vote, vote,’ which went on for an hour until somebody finally fixed his teleprompter,” he joked. “Personally, I think the problem with that message is it’s not catchy enough. So we thought we’d help out with that.”
