Throwback Thursday: Shania Twain Received Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

1962

Ray Charles’ “I Can’t Stop Loving You” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1962 for five weeks. His version is noted for his saying the words before the last five lines of the song on the final chorus: “Sing the Song, Children”.

1964

The original Broadway cast album of Hello Dolly! was certified gold.

1967

David Bowie released his debut studio album, titled David Bowie, on Deram Records. It failed to make the UK charts. (Technically released June 1st, 1967).

1972

For the first time since 1960, Dion reunites with his old group, the Belmonts, for an oldies revival show at Madison Square Garden.

1973

English rock band the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) began their first US tour in San Diego.

1978

Bruce Springsteen’s fourth studio album, Darkness On The Edge of Town, was released. The album marked the end of a three-year gap between albums brought on by contractual obligations and legal battling with former manager Mike Appe.

1979

Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, to become one of her most popular songs. In 2010, the song was ranked #104 on Rolling Stone’s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

2003

Arista Nashville released Alan Jackson’s duet with Jimmy Buffett, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” to radio. It was the lead single from Jackson’s 2003 compilation album Greatest Hits Volume II.

2009

Cher sued Universal Music Group on behalf of herself and her late partner Sonny Bono, claiming the label owes them five million in unpaid royalties.

2011

Country/Pop singer Shania Twain (“Any Man of Mine” and “You’re Still The One”) received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
