Throwback Thursday: The Beach Boys Appear On An Episode Of ‘Full House’

1891

The Music Hall (later Carnegie Hall) had its grand opening with its first public performance. The first performer was Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

1955

The musical Damn Yankees, featuring the song “Whatever Lola Wants,” opened at the 42nd Street Theatre on Broadway. It ran for 1,019 performances.

1956

Elvis Presley’s album Elvis became the first rock and roll album to hit #1 on the Billboard charts.

1962

Chris Montez recorded “Let’s Dance,” which will go on to reach No. 4 on the Billboard chart and No. 2 in the UK the following Fall.

1969

Stevie Wonder met President Nixon at the White House. Nixon awarded him the Distinguished Service Award from the President’s Committee on Employment of Handicapped People. Five years later, Wonder expressed his disdain for what was going on in Washington with the anti-Nixon single “You Haven’t Done Nothin’.” The song featured backing vocals from The Jackson 5 and went to #1 on the pop charts. Nixon resigned two days after it was released.

1991

The video for the R.E.M. song “Losing My Religion,” was banned in Ireland because its religious imagery was seen as unfit for broadcast.

1992

The Beach Boys appeared as themselves on an episode of ABC-TV’s sitcom Full House, titled “Captain Video (Part 1)”. In the episode, a record company wants to shoot a music video for Jesse’s cover of the Beach Boys’ song, “Forever.”

1999

Garth Brooks was named artist of the decade at the 34 annual Academy of Country Music Awards.
