Throwback Thursday: The Beatles Began Recording “Come Together”
1947
Folk singer Cat Stevens was born on this day. He started his musical career in the 60s, where he wrote the song “The First Cut is the Deepest” in the ’60s. Since then it has become a hit for four different artists. In 1977, Stevens converted to the Islamic religion, changing his name to Yusef Islam.
1969
The Beatles began recording John Lennon’s “Come Together”, recording eight takes in Abbey Road’s studio three. The track became the opening song on The Beatles Abbey Road album and was later released as a double A-sided single with “Something”, their 21st single in the UK and 26th in the US where it reached the top of the charts.
1976
KISS released the album “The Originals,” which was a re-release of the first three albums: Kiss, Hotter Than Hell and Dressed to Kill. In September of 1976, it reached a peak of No. 36 on the US charts.
1979
Anne Murray’s “Shadows In The Moonlight” was No. 1 on the Billboard country chart.
1987
Guns N’ Roses released their debut album on Geffen Records, titled Appetite For Destruction. It featured the singles “Welcome to the Jungle”, “Sweet Child o’ Mine”, and “Paradise City”.
1998
The Beastie Boys began touring for their fifth album Hello Nasty.
1999
Charley Pride received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was the 2,140th star to be dedicated.
2001
Madonna began her 47-day “Drowned World Tour” at the First Union Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was her first world tour in eight years, following 1993’s “The Girlie Show”.
2004
Sara Evans performed for George W. Bush at the annual president’s dinner in Washington, D.C. The set list includes “Born To Fly,” “No Place That Far,” “Perfect” and her current single at the time, “Suds In The Bucket”.

Gary Allan’s “Best I Ever Had” music video debuted on CMT.
