1956

Elvis Presley made his first National Television appearance on the Dorsey Brother’s Stage Show. It was the first of six appearances on the show, as well as the first of eight performances recorded and broadcasted from CBS TV in NYC.

1965

The Who made their first appearance on the British TV rock show Ready Set Go!

1978

The Fleetwood Mac album Rumours went to No. 1 on the UK and US album chart. The album sold over 15 million copies worldwide and spent over 440 weeks on the UK chart.

1985

The song We Are The World was recorded at A&M Studios in Hollywood, featuring more than 40 artists. Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, it included Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Diana Ross, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Daryl Hall, John Oates, Cyndi Lauper, Steve Perry, Bob Geldof and more. The proceeds went toward worldwide hunger prevention.

1990

Paula Abdul started a 10-week run at No. 1 on the US album chart with Forever Your Girl. Abdul spent 64 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 before hitting No. 1, making it the longest time for an album to each the top spot.

1995

TLC started a four-week run at No. 1 on the US singles chart with “Creep,” the group’s first US No. 1 single. The following year, the single made No. 6 in the UK.

1996

Diana Ross performed as the featured halftime performer at Super Bowl XXX in Tempe, AZ.

2001

“It Wasn’t Me,” the first single from Jamaican-American reggae artist Shaggy, started a two-week run at No. 1 on the US singles chart (also a No. 1 in the UK). The song features vocals from English singer Ricardo Rikrot.

2007

“Dreamgirls: Music from the Motion Picture,” the soundtrack album for the 2006 film Dreamgirls, was No. 1 on the US album chart. The musical, based on the history of Diana Ross and The Supremes, featured Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose and Keith Robinson.

2013

“Stay” is a song recorded by singer Rihanna for her seventh studio album, Unapologetic. It features guest vocals by Mikky Ekko, and was released as the second single from the album on January 28, 2013 in the US.
