LOS ANGELES – The lead singer of 1980s ‘hair band’ Warrant was found dead at a Los Angeles hotel late Thursday, TMZ reported.

Officer Sara Faden reported the body of 47-year-old Jani Lane — who wrote the band’s hit “Cherry Pie” and also had a solo career — was discovered at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills.

The official cause of death was not released.

Lane, who was born John Kennedy Oswald in Akron, Ohio, had battled alcohol problems in the past. He was sentenced to 120 days in jail in 2010 after being arrested twice for drunk driving within two years, according to TMZ.

Within the past several years, Lane was a cast member on the second season of the VH1 show “Celebrity Fit Club.”
