Watch: Trailer for HBO’s Kurt Cobain Documentary Released

A new trailer for HBO’s Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, a documentary about the life of the late lead singer of Nirvana, has been released and features home video clips and interviews with his family members and bassist Krist Novoselic, as well as a look at the animation that will be used in the film.

The documentary was written, directed and produced by Brett Morgen. Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain and his widow Courtney Love served as executive producers.

A press release stated that the film will feature “dozens of Nirvana songs and performances as well as previously unheard Cobain originals” in addition to “no-holds-barred access to Kurt Cobain’s archives, home to his never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photography, journals, demos, personal archives, family archives, and songbooks.” The film’s soundtrack will also have “a mind blowing 12 minute acoustic Cobain unheard track,” according to Morgen on Twitter.

A companion book will also be released and will contain “a mixture of animation stills, rare photography and other treasures from Kurt Cobain’s personal archive.” It hits stores April 7.

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck will air May 4 on HBO.
