FUN FACTS

  1. Sonic was redesigned after initial backlash for the first trailer went viral. The redesign pushed the release back from November 12, 2019 to Valentine’s Day 2020 to allow the visual effects team to alter the character as “the best he can be.” Fans have since praised the character’s new look that’s much closer to his appearance in the video game.
  2. One of the co-writers for the film wanted a PG-13 rating, however it got a PG rating to make it more family friendly and appeal to a wider audience.
  3. Sonic in this film has new shoes, and a furrier appearance, as well as an athlete body that suits a runner. According to producer Tim Miller, “fur is an essential part of integrating Sonic into the real world as a real creature.”
  4. Sonic is the 5th character voiced by Ben Schwartz to be associated with the color blue. The other 4 had been Skidmark in the DreamWorks Animation film Turbo (2013), Steve the Troll in the Nick Junior series Wallykazam! (2014), Dewey Duck in the Disney XD series DuckTales (2017), and Leonardo in the Nickelodeon series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018).
