Heisman Front-Runner Suspended Indefinitely

One of college football’s brightest stars may have played his last game as an amateur.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Georgia running back Todd Gurley has been suspended indefinitely from competition amid an investigation into broken NCAA rules. There have been reports that Gurley’s violation centers on him profiting from his likeness, specifically game-worn or autographed memorabilia. Similar charges ended the college career of Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant and were the basis for an investigation of Heisman winner and former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel.

If suspended, Gurley has almost certainly played his last game in college. The consensus top running back in college football, Gurley is projected to be a certain first-round pick in the NFL draft. The
suspension will have an immediate impact for the Georgia Bulldogs, who face 23rd ranked Missouri on Saturday, and were considered a favorite to challenge for an SEC title.

Gurley the third leading rusher in school history is in the midst of a Heisman-caliber season with 773 yards rushing and eight touchdowns in five games. He leads the conference in rushing yards per game and is second in the nation in total offense per game.
