Jadeveon Clowney’s Father Arrested For Attempted Murder

According to South Carolina newspaper The Herald, David Morgan, the father of NFL defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, was arrested last night on attempted murder charges.

It all started after Morgan was removed from sitting on the stage at a local South Carolina strip club. An employee saw Morgan standing behind the back of the property around 2:15am. Once Morgan saw the employee he fired several shots at him, the employee returned fire in self defense according to the police report.

The police found Clowney’s father with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and arrested him at Piedmont Medical Center. He is now charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon, he will be in court for a bond hearing later on today.

David Morgan has a history of run ins with the law. According to Sports Illustrated, he spent almost 12 years in prison for second-degree burglary. Clowney’s mother, Josenna, raised the blooming defensive stalwart while his father was incarcerated missing most of his football career.

Its been a tough start for Jadeveon Clowneys NFL career. During the 2014 – 2015 he was selected by the Houston Texans with the first overall pick. While he looked to have a promising career, Clowney only played in four games during his rookie season before he suffered a torn meniscus and cartilage damage. He went through micro-fracture knee surgery on December 8th and is scheduled to return on the field by August 17th according to Texans coach Bill O’Brien.

Labeled a defensive game changer, coming off a season ending injury, and receiving high praise from coaches,  Clowney was set to have a great comeback story this NFL season. Now with his fathers current attempted murder charges, the focus has been taken off his NFL return and now its being focused on how this effects him on and off the field.
