Ronda Rousey Announces Next Opponent

C bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has officially announced her next opponent!

Rousey was on Good Morning America Friday where she announced that she will be competing against Holly Holm on Januaray 2nd, 2016 in UFC 195 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Rousey had this to say about Holm, “the most decorated striker we have in all of mixed martial arts…Not the women’s division, not the bantamweight division, like 19-time boxing world champion Holly Holm, was the Ring Magazine pound-for-pound female fighter of the year and definitely my biggest challenge to date so I’m super-excited about it.”

While Ronda’s former opponents carried the skill to step in the octagon, nothing compares Holly Holm’s striking ability. With quick hands and her impressive resume of 9 – 0 during her UFC career, she becomes Rousey’s biggest test to date.

The bantamweight champion is still highly regarded the top dog in woman’s mixed martial arts. Rousey has upped her game by not only being a submission specialist but a smart and heavy hitter. Some of her most impressive wins have come though knockout in the first round, while her other wins have come through submission…which were also in the first round. Rousey’s last five matches combined have lasted a little over three minutes, but Holm is certainly putting this statistic in consideration as she tries to turn Rousey’s record to 12 wins – 1 loss.

Rousey vs Holm is sure to be the next big superfight in UFC history! Most people reported that Rousey’s next match would be a rematch against Meisha Tate, since both fighters carry a long history. Perhaps she is saving that fight for her retirement match, which she has openly talked about this year.
