Unvaccinated NFL Players Risk a Loss if They Cause Outbreak

The NFL just informed teams on Thursday that they could receive a loss if an outbreak leads to a game not being rescheduled. More specifically, this rule applies to players who are not vaccinated. This news come from a memo sent out by commissioner Roger Goodell.

At the moment, there is no punishment for vaccinated players who cause a disruption due to COVID.  If a game can’t be rescheduled during the regular season due to the outbreak, that team will receive a loss. This does affect their season record and counts towards playoff seeding.

Unvaccinated players will have to adhere to additional protocols during both practice and the regular season. In addition, they are subject to daily testing, having to wear masks often, and several travel restrictions. Several players have already expressed their distaste for the rule, including Deandre Hopkins. With the season rapidly approaching, this could be just the start of new rules and regulations put in place.
