American Idol Offering $50,000 to Season 14 Winner’s ‘True Believer’

FOX announced today it would be offering another prize through American Idol, and you don’t even have to sing for it.

The reality singing competition plans to give away $50,000 to the next American Idol’s biggest supporter, such as a family member, friend, or colleague. Each contestant will choose someone they consider to be their greatest encourager, also known as a “True Believer,” who will take home the reward at the end of the season if their contestant wins Season 14. If a contestant does not pick someone as their “True Believer,” that contestant can choose a charity to receive the prize money.

Idol begins auditions for Season 14 this week, kicking off in Minneapolis on June 18, followed by New Orleans (June 25); Uniondale, NY (July 23); Nashville (July 30); and San Francisco (Sept. 29).

Those who want to audition for Idol can do so through social media by using the hashtag #TheNextIdol, through www.americanidol.com, or through Idol’s bus tour that will be hitting the road in July. The dates for the bus tour are below:

West Coast Bus Tour

  • July 9 – Portland OR
  • July 12 – Reno, NV
  • July 15 – Albuquerque, NM
  • July 17 – Amarillo, TX
  • July 19 – Branson, MO
  • July 21 – Kansas City, MO

East Coast Bus Tour

  • July 9 – Portland, ME
  • July 12 – Columbus, OH
  • July 15 – Richmond, VA
  • July 17 – Myrtle Beach, SC
  • July 20 – Tallahassee, FL
