‘Atlanta’ Season 3 Teaser Released

Right before Halloween was over, Donald Glover gave the Internet one more piece of candy by releasing a link to a spooky teaser trailer of Season 3 of his hit show Atlanta on Twitter.

The teaser matches the spirit of Halloween, conveying an eerie feeling mostly unseen in the show to date. It features several images of deserted sets to the sound of Sun Ra’s frightening “It’s After the End of the World.” The only character that appears is David Tyree Henry’s Paper Boi, who is seen sitting at the end of a table while the camera creepily zooms in. Then, the logo of the series appears, followed by “2022,” indicating when the new season will be released.

Glover’s link to the trailer also played into its cryptic feeling. After clicking the link, the user is taken to an unknown website called Gilga.com. At the top, the website displays the user’s local time and city. On top of that, the teaser trailer is only available at nighttime, with the following note offered as an explanation: “While under construction, Gilga is a ‘nite-site’ operational hours are 8 p.m.-3 a.m.”

The series has been off the air since May 2018, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Glover’s busy schedule with alternative projects, it was postponed to 2022, with an exact release date yet to be announced.

However, there’s good news for fans of the comedy-drama; FX Networks and FX Productions chairman John Landgraf confirmed in 2020 that the show’s Season 3 and 4 scripts are already completed. Plus, Landgraf revealed in August that while the team works on the post-production of Season 3, the production of Season 4 is already underway, alluding to a much shorter wait time between the upcoming seasons.

The first season of Atlanta was released in 2016, winning the hearts of a legion of fans and several Primetime Emmy awards, such as Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, both for Donald Glover in 2017, and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for Katt Williams in 2018.
