‘Doctor Who’ Cinema Screenings and TV Specials Announced

BBC America announced Thursday that it will be kicking off the new season of Doctor Who with cinema screenings and special TV programming.

The premiere episode of the season, entitled “Deep Breath,” will air Saturday, August 23. Before the show, comedian Chris Hardwick will host Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show in addition to Doctor Who: After Who Live, which will air after the premiere of BBC America’s new paranormal thriller series Intruders that same night. The pre-show and post-show will have exclusive behind-the-scenes footage as well as special guests, including writer and actor Mark Gatiss.

In anticipation of the new season, BBC America will be airing a series of Doctor Who specials. Doctor Who: The Ultimate Companion will air Saturday, August 16 followed by The Real History of Science Fiction: Time. Doctor Who: The Ultimate Time Lord will air Monday, August 18.

Beginning August 6, fans will be able to vote for their favorite Doctor Who episodes at BBC America’s website. Then on Sunday, August 24, the network will air a Doctor Who marathon, consisting of the winning episodes from the online poll.

Fans will have the chance to see Peter Capaldi’s official debut as the popular time traveler on the silver screen. The network is partnering with Fathom Events to have midnight screenings of “Deep Breath” on August 23 in 12 cities. There will additionally be 550 theaters across the nation that will host two screenings of the premiere episode on August 25. These screenings will include 15 minutes of cinema exclusive bonus content.
