HBO Announces ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5 Premiere and Other Scheduling News

After announcing earlier this week that Game of Thrones will be heading to IMAX for one week at the end of the month, HBO revealed today that the fifth season of the drama series will debut on Sunday, April 12.The fourth season of Veep and the second season of Silicon Valley will be premiering the same night.

The upcoming season of Game of Thrones will consist of ten episodes and will be based off of George R.R. Martin’s fourth and fifth novels,  A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons.

HBO also disclosed that its next new scripted series The Brink, a political comedy, will premiere in the summer. It stars Jack Black, Tim Robbins and Pablo Schreiber.

The cable network’s documentary about Edward Snowden, Citizenfour, will air February 23. Bessie starring Queen Latifah as blues singer Bessie Smith will be shown in the spring. A two-night, four-hour documentary about Frank SInatra titled Sinatra: All or Nothing At All will also air this year and mark the 100th anniversary of the singer’s birth.

In addition, Real Time With Bill Maher was renewed for a 14th and 15th season and comedian Tig Notaro will star in her first HBO comedy special.
